I think it's safe to say that a lot of us Malaysians take our food very seriously. There have been infamous arguments between our country and others over food origins and with a new video circulating, locals have been left baffled and disgusted by a so-called "Malaysian Dish".
Tasty, a subsection of Buzzfeed, recently posted a video of one of their chefs making a Ramen Omelette. While seemingly harmless at first glance, within the description as well as in her intro, they claim that this is a popular street food here, leaving netizens scratching their heads.
"The ramen omelette cart in Malaysia is a popular street food vendor known for its unique fusion of Japanese and Malaysian flavours."
"It serves delicious ramen noodles wrapped in a fluffy omelette, creating a savoury and satisfying meal thats loved by locals and tourists!"
Featuring the recipe in the post, the video goes on to show the chef preparing and cooking one of these omelettes. As she begins to put the ingredients in the pan, it becomes painfully obvious to those watching that this is a far cry from any of our usual delicacies, causing netizens to voice their confusion and frustration.
However, after a little digging, it turns out there actually is a street food vendor here that sells this unusual dish. Setting up in a few night markets, this stall has been featured on some social media platforms cooking this dish.
Looking almost identical to Tasty's replication, it's become clear that this, while not the most common street food here, is genuinely sold on the streets here. So while some of us may be left confused by Buzzfeed's video, we no longer can disagree with their statements. But either way, this proves the point that you should never mess with a Malaysian's food.
