The lifeless bodies of a foreign woman and her newborn baby were found along Jalan Impiana 5 on Sunday morning (Jan 7), prompting a police investigation into the tragic incident.
Kulai district police chief Superintendent Tan Seng Lee confirmed the discovery in an official statement, revealing that authorities received a report at approximately 8.15 am regarding the presence of two bodies at the roadside.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the deceased woman, believed to be an Indonesian national, holding her newborn baby boy in her arms. The baby, whose umbilical cord was still intact, was dressed in diapers, while the woman was wearing a sarong.
"Preliminary investigations revealed no visible injuries on either the mother or the child," said Superintendent Tan. "This suggests that the bodies may have been cleaned before being placed at the scene, as no traces of blood were found nearby."
The discovery was made by an office worker passing through the area, who promptly alerted authorities. Police cordoned off the scene by 10.20 am, and a forensic team was deployed to collect evidence and determine the cause of death.
Under Section 316 of the Penal Code, the case is being investigated for causing the death of an unborn child a charge carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine.
Sin Chew Daily reported that investigators suspect the bodies were deliberately dumped at the location. The absence of blood and visible injuries has raised questions about the circumstances leading to the deaths.
