Every time a period piece presents itself, we're the first ones in line.
As of recent, Jane Austen's classic 'Persuasion' was released on Netflix starring Dakota Johnson, and as stoke as we were for it, ratings, reviews, as well as our general preference for the movie fell on the more negative side of the spectrum.
Wishing there was so much and more, here are our 3 short reasons why 'Persuasion' didn't quite meet expectations.
Check them out down below.
#3 The modern take was not it
As witty and experimental as putting a modern spin on a classic was, sometimes, you just don't mess with the originals you know? That whole aspect sort of took away too much from what the movie could have been.
#2 Where was the angst??
If there is one thing audiences live for in period pieces (Pride & Prejudice, Bridgerton, Emma, etc.), it is angst. That raw animal chemistry from just a single look, a single breath, a single touch. 'Persuasion' did not have it.
#1 We should have managed our expectations
Being a Jane Austen classic, a lot of expectations were had going into it, and that was probably our biggest downfall. Maybe if we or people didn't expect so much?
Of course, at the end of the day, to each their own, so do catch it on Netflix should you intend to judge it for yourself.
