During weddings, it's customary to exchange dowries, often comprising perfumes, watches, jewellery, and similar items. However, this particular couple decided to put a unique twist on the tradition by exchanging essential household items, focusing specifically on cooking essentials.
"I don't view the concept of offering essential household items as wedding gifts as 'crazy'; rather, it's practical and reflects my love for cooking," expressed Siti Masnida Abdul Malek. She and her spouse, Mohd Yusri Md Yunus, exchanged vows on December 31, presenting each other with household necessities like chilli, sugar, salt, canned sardines, cooking oil, onions, ginger, eggs, spices, and tom yum seasoning packets.
As reported by Harian Metro, the idea to select these items originated from Siti Masnida, endorsed by their families, and all purchases were made within a budget of less than RM100 per set. Initially, the groom intended to include gifts such as perfume, handbags, watches, and shoes, but they weren't prioritized as they already possessed them.
"We didn't prepare wedding gifts due to financial constraints, but I desired something unique based on my preferences. I'm not one to accumulate possessions, and I enjoy cooking, hence the choice of kitchen items," she elaborated.
"The idea emerged a week before the ceremony, and we procured the groom's gifts at a cost of RM85 for five sets, while I assembled seven sets for less than RM50 each, as some items like onions were obtained from home," she added. Siti Masnida noted that aside from catering to their preferences, selecting these items also helped save costs, enabling them to allocate additional funds for their upcoming honeymoon in Sabah.
