Infamous designer Radzuan Radziwil recently made headlines after expressing his decision not to offer clothing sizes beyond XL. In an interview, he justified his stance by emphasizing the importance of health over fashion.
"I do not encourage customers to wear clothes larger than size XL because, to me, health is more important than just fashion," he stated.
Radzuan further explained, "In my opinion, size XL is already large enough, and I do not want to encourage customers towards larger sizes."
However, his remarks have ignited mixed reactions among Malaysians, with some supporting his perspective while others argue that his views lack inclusivity.
Taking to Threads, one netizen criticized Radzuan's statement, highlighting that body size is not solely dependent on weight.
"People are built differently. Some 'trim' individuals can even wear XL due to their bone structure it is not even about being fat," they pointed out.
Another user suggested that Radzuan could have expressed his stance more sensitively, writing, "You could have said this a bit more empathetically."
On the other hand, some netizens defended the designer's views. One user dismissed concerns over potential backlash, stating, "He is a designer. I doubt it will hurt his business. Hit the treadmill, lift weights, then you can wear whatever."
Another commenter added, "Someone needs a reality check. Wearing XL means you are fat, unless you are built like WWE wrestlers, then you can talk about body structure."
Some agreed with Radzuan's emphasis on health, with one netizen remarking, "I think he was polite with his statement, and it does make sense. He didn't mean to offend but places huge emphasis on being healthy."
