In an effort to increase security, all police stations around the country have been instructed to close their doors from 10 p.m., Parliament was informed yesterday.

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, this decision was prompted after the attack that happened in May at the Ulu Tiram Police Station where two police officers were killed brutally.

"While police stations may remain a target, we also need to strike a balance between it being a place of complaints. Thus, this decision is so that we can strike a balance between the two needs.", Saifuddin stated during the Q&A portion at Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He continued by saying that all of the police's major stations, district headquarters, and patrol frequency have received extremely specific orders to review and tighten their standard operating procedures.

Following the announcement, netizens have expressed a range of reactions.

"What happens if people need to make urgent reports etc?"

"It is during these unearthly hours these criminals will take advantage of your decision."

"I guess this instruction will be temporary before a more comprehensive SOP is being formulated."

Being reported by Bernama, PDRM will carry on providing services as usual even though police stations in the country have been instructed to close their gates after 10pm.
