A 23-year-old old man and an 18-year-old female teen have been charged for inflicting physical trauma on an 18-month-old infant in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.
The child was found with multiple injuries on their head, eyes, body, and even on the soles of their feet, and the abuse is believed to have taken place in a house in Felda Bukit Jalor, Tampin in between August 3rd to August 25th.
Both suspects were charged under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Children Act 2001 in conjunction with Section 34 of the Penal Code. The man was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment while the young female teen was ordered to be detained at Henry Gurney School until the age of 21 under Section 76 of the Children Act 2001.
1 out of 10 children in Malaysia is likely to be a victim of abuse, with 2040 records of child abuse cases reported in the first month of 2021 alone. No child deserves this. If you see a child exhibiting possible signs of abuse, do your part and hold their guardian responsible. It might save their lives.
