A 25-year-old man was arrested after filing a false police report claiming he had been robbed, in an attempt to avoid being reprimanded by his wife for losing RM850.
According to Kota Samarahan police chief, Deputy Superintendent Jaimi Husin, the man lodged a report at the local police station around 8:22 p.m., stating that he had been the victim of an armed robbery. He claimed the incident occurred in Kampung Tanjung Bundong, where two men on motorcycles allegedly assaulted him with a sharp weapon. In his report, he said he lost RM850 in cash, three customer packages, and a smartphone.
However, during the investigation, authorities found no evidence of the alleged robbery. After further questioning, the man admitted to fabricating the story. He confessed that he had fallen asleep in a parking lot in Bandar Riyal and had lost his wife's RM850 while doing so. Fearing his wife's reaction, he decided to file a false report to cover up the loss.
"The suspect confessed to making up the robbery to avoid being scolded by his wife," explained Jaimi Husin.
The man was arrested for making a false report, and legal action is expected to follow. Police reminded the public that lodging false reports is a serious offense and could lead to severe consequences.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty, even in difficult situations, and the legal implications that arise from fabricating incidents to avoid personal accountability.
