Apparently the Jeju Air 2216 flight wasn’t the only aviation disaster recorded today. Over in Canada and Norway, two other flights also reported malfunctions- each merely hours from one another.
Here’s what you need to know:
#1- Jeju Air 2216
A Boeing 737-800 carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members skidded off the runway of Muan International Airport before crashing into a perimeter wall, in what was believed to have been caused by bird strike just moments before landing.
Only two people survived- one passenger and one crew member-, making this the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea.
#2- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
In Norway, a hydraulic failure caused a flight bound for Amsterdam - a model similar to that of the South Korea disaster- to make an emergency landing at the Torp Airport.
However, it skidded off the runway just minutes upon landing.
183 passengers were onboard, but no casualties reported.
#3- Air Canada Express 2259
The flight carrying 73 passengers had embarked from St. Johns International Airport, but was forced to make an emergency landing at Halifax due to landing gear failure.
A passenger managed to capture the distressing incident, which showed fire erupting from the flight’s left wing, after it tilted and smashed on the runway from the rough landing.
No casualties reported.
