A 77-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a shop at a petrol station in Ipoh, causing significant damage but fortunately leaving everyone unharmed.
The incident, which occurred around 11:30 am on Tuesday (Jan 7), involved a gold Perodua Myvi. According to initial investigations by Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, the accident happened after the vehicle hit a speed bump. The driver mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal excessively, propelling the car into the shop.
Photos of the aftermath have since gone viral on social media, showcasing the extent of the damage. One image reveals shattered glass scattered across the floor and a large glass panel reduced to fragments. Another photo highlights demolished cabinets and tables, painting a vivid picture of the destruction caused by the crash.
"The driver and customers at the shop were unharmed, and only the front part of the vehicle sustained damage," said Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin. The case is currently being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59) for failing to control the vehicle.
Bercham assemblyperson Ong Boon Piow visited the site to assess the damage and emphasized the importance of cautious driving, especially for elderly motorists.
