The Negeri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has advised visitors to exercise caution at Pantai Cermin in Port Dickson following a crocodile sighting in the area on February 1.
According to Perhilitan director Faizal Izham Pikri, the department received a report from the public regarding a crocodile spotted at Monkey Bay, Pantai Cermin, around 4:30 pm.
"Upon receiving the report, our team was dispatched to the location. An initial investigation confirmed the presence of a crocodile floating in the sea, estimated to be about two metres in length," he stated.
Observations indicated that the crocodile had been frequenting the area since the previous night, often appearing more prominently during low tide. The reptile was seen moving within a 50-metre range.
To address public concerns, Faizal Izham assured that continuous monitoring would be conducted.
"We intend to set up a trap in the mangrove area and will assess the situation, as the crocodile tends to move towards the mangroves at night," he added.
He further advised the public to remain vigilant, avoid provoking the reptile if encountered, and immediately report any sightings to Negeri Sembilan Perhilitan or relevant authorities for prompt action.
