A heart-wrenching tragedy struck a family in Taiwan as they were on their way to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year in their hometown. A father, mother, and their six children were traveling in an electric vehicle (EV) when disaster struck. The 40-year-old father, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a divider at a rest stop. The car caught fire immediately, trapping the entire family inside.
In a devastating turn of events, four members of the family lost their lives in the accident, including three young children. The victims included the father, aged 40, and three of the children, two daughters, aged 10 and 4, and a 2-year-old. Despite being rushed to the hospital, they succumbed to their injuries. One of the children, who was just 4 years old, suffered extensive third-degree burns covering 90% of her body.
The surviving members, including the wife and three other children aged 11, 8, and 4, are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The crash and subsequent fire left them severely injured, but they are reportedly stable and under medical care.
Eyewitnesses who captured dashcam footage of the incident noted that the EV did not slow down before colliding with the divider, suggesting the possibility of driver error or mechanical failure. Police investigations revealed that the EV was dangerously overloaded. Although the vehicle was designed to carry only five passengers, it was carrying a total of eight at the time of the crash.
In a desperate attempt to extinguish the fire, nearby convenience store employees used approximately five fire extinguishers, but they were ultimately unable to contain the flames in time. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but could not save those trapped in the burning vehicle.
