The prime minister stated that the government will disclose good news regarding civil salary increases before the end of the year.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim disclosed that the government is now looking into measures to raise civil officials' salaries, which have not been raised in a long time.
According to the New Straits Times, he explained that the problem was being investigated because he received complaints from the public, particularly civil servants.
"We recently gave RM2,000 to civil servants, which was supposed to be enough till Raya, but I heard (complaints), so we gave them another RM500.
"This year, we will also look for measures to raise government servant salaries before the end of the year.
"Why didn't (wage) go up in 2020, 2021, or 2022, and you're waiting for us to go up?
"That is okay because we hear complaints from the public (civil servants), and Alhamdulillah (agreement in the unity government), good news (on salary increase) will be announced in the next few months, no later than the Budget (2025)," he said in his speech at the Madani breaking of fast event at Pusat Islam Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Permatang Pauh yesterday.
Anwar went on to say that people should look at the 2025 Budget address to see if the pay raise announcement will be made then.
"I won't tell when I'll announce. Therefore, listen till the end (of the budget report)," he added.
On January 21, the president of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (Cuepacs), Datuk Dr Adnan Mat, reportedly stated that public servants' current compensation positions could not bear the burden of expenses due to the increase in the cost of living.
As a result, he stated that the decision to enhance civil worker salaries should be done immediately, rather than waiting for the Public Service Remuneration System Study (SSPA).
