Malaysia will have a new airline, Ascend Airway that will adopt a different operating model from other airlines.
The Business Times reported that Ascend Airways Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. established by British startup Ascend Airway Group, has received conditional approval for its Air Services Permit (ASP) from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) in November last year.
Currently, Ascend Air Malaysia is in the process of applying for an Airline Operating Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
The company will start operations after obtaining a full air service license. According to repors, the company plans to start operations by the end of 2025, and will initially have six Boeing aircraft, including two B737-800s and four B737 MAX 8s.
The company will focus on providing aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) services for air cargo and passenger services, rather than competing directly with Malaysia Airlines Bhd. and AirAsia Malaysia.
