Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Chery has stepped in to support residents affected by the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Selangor. The company has pledged to lend 50 cars to help victims regain mobility following the devastating incident.
According to Malay Mail, Selangor Executive Councillor (EXCO) Ng Sze Han highlighted that Chery's initiative is part of ongoing relief efforts to assist more than a hundred families whose homes and vehicles were damaged in the fire.
"We understand that many residents need transportation for daily activities, such as commuting to work and sending their children to school. To ease their difficulties, Chery is lending 50 cars," said Ng, who is also the Kinrara assemblyperson.
Ng expressed his appreciation for Chery Malaysia's generous contribution, valued at approximately RM500,000, and encouraged other automotive companies to collaborate with the state government in supporting the affected residents, as reported by Bernama.

Fire's Devastating Impact
As of 1 April evening, the fire and rescue department reported that 237 houses were impacted by the fire, displacing 305 individuals. At least 145 victims suffered burns and heat inhalation injuries and required hospital treatment.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced immediate financial aid to support the victims. Those whose homes were completely destroyed will receive RM5,000, while those with partially damaged homes will receive RM2,500.
Additionally, Puchong Member of Parliament Yeo Bee Yin stated that an initial allocation of RM10,000 has been set aside for emergency relief, with a possibility of increasing the funds if necessary.
Many affected residents are currently taking shelter at the temporary evacuation center (PPS) set up at the Putra Heights Mosque.
