Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo decided to file for divorce and both sides had released an official statement regarding the divorce.

The actor and actress of "Descendants of the Sun", became a hot topic after they released their official dating statement and were immediately nicknamed as the "SongSong couple".

Song Joong Ki announced on 27 June he is filing a divorce with his two-year-partner.

His official statement translated in English:

"First, I'd like to apologize for delivering this unfortunate news to my fans , who love and care for me" according to CNN Philipines' translation.

According to Soompi's translation:

"I have begun the process of filing for divorce from Song Hye Kyo. Rather than denouncing one another and arguing over who to blame, I hope that the divorce process can be wrapped up amicably. I ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that it is difficult to discuss the details of my personal life, and I will recover from my current wounds and do my utmost as an actor to repay you through great productions in the future."

Several hours later, Song Hye Kyo also released a statement through her agency, United Artist Agency (UAA), mentioning the cause of their split.

"The reason [of the divorce] is differences in personality and because the two were unable to overcome their differences, they were forced to come to this decision, " UAA stated on behalf of Song Hye Kyo.

The agency also politely asked the public to refrain from making malicious speculation about the divorce of SongSong couple and asked for the public's understanding as they could not release further details about the former couples' privacy.

The love story of the SongSong couple was short but it was one of the most followed celebrity relationships across Korea. The fans were also more than happy to know that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are dating in real life, following the success of the drama who they both co-starred in "Descendants of the Sun".
