Phone Addict? | Bill to Stop Using Phone While Walking in Yamoto, Japan

Nowadays, many people are using their smartphones when walking, causing collisions, and sometimes accidents. Therefore, a bill that aims to stop phone using while walking is submitted by the officials in Yamoto city near Tokyo.

The city official Masaaki Yasumi said that they want to prevent the rising number of accidents that resulting from using smartphones while walking. However, he said that there will be no punishment for those unable to follow.
According to a research conducted by Japanese mobile giant NTT Docomo in 2014, the average field of vision while looking at the smartphone of a pedestrian is estimated to be 5% of what our eyes take in normally.

From the result of a computer simulation of what would happen if 1500 of citizens used the hectic Shibuya pedestrian crossing while all of them staring down at their phones, it showed that there will be 21 people dropping their smartphones, 103 people being knocked down and 446 collisions happened.
Hopefully, more awareness about the danger will be raised through the ban.
