As if we haven't seen enough disturbing trends spiraling on TikTok, here comes another one. Case in point? The recent 'unboxing' trend that went viral on the video-sharing platform for the WRONG reasons. And no, it doesn't involve gifts.
Dubbed 'unboxing by husband', the trend involves Muslim newlyweds whereby the bride records her significant other undressing her bridalwear (hijab) on their wedding night. The distasteful deed is then posted on social media for all to see.
The controversial trend was quickly slammed by netizens and Islamic departments for its inappropriate content. On the grounds of the Islamic principles, a wife's modesty belongs solely to her husband and cannot be publicly displayed.
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department has since shared a Facebook post in a bid to advice other Muslim newlyweds against following suit.
