Breaking: A Malaysian pharmacist was found dead in his Bellfield home on October 23, believed to have been stabbed multiple times by a schizophrenic man.
Kum Chuan Leong- or KC, as he’s fondly known- was described as “talented and kind” in a tribute made by his employer, Eastern Health chief executive David Plunkett.
According to a neighbour, she had heard blood-curdling screams in the area the night before, but didn’t think anything was serious because a police car had been on the street.
However, residents were shocked after hearing about the slain 29-year-old the very next day.
The suspect, a homeless 54-year-old named Simon Hunter, was arrested by police after a CCTV footage showed him being near the scene.
On Thursday, Hunter appeared for a hearing before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via a video link. During the procedure, he displayed signs of erraticism, and even uttered coldly, “I have the right to kill who I want.”
Another hearing is expected to take place on January 16 next year, due to Hunter being deemed “unfit”.
Our deepest condolences to KC’s family, may justice prevail.
