In Kuala Terengganu, over 40 European tourists refused to travel back to their respective countries as they fear of catching the COVID-19 infection.
According to the State Tourism Department director, Ab Rasid Jusoh, there are still 40 foreign tourists in Pulau Perhentian, Besut, 5 in Pulau Redang and 3 in Pulau Tenggol, Dungun.
The department director said that the tourists had been traveled to these islands since mid of March. The state government has given the order to the tourists to leave the resort and return to their respective home countries.
“But they had refused to go, worried that they will be infected with the COVID-19 because the situation in their respective countries was more serious.
"We used various methods including persuading them to leave the resort, but they had refused and pleaded for permission to remain there until the COVID-19 situation had fully recovered," said Ad Rasid Jusoh.
He also added that the state government had kept in touch with the owners of chalets on the islands to monitor the situation.
