Earlier today, a family of 5 was nearly drowned in Kota Kinabalu due to rough undercurrents of the sea.
Happening at around 9am, reports state that big waves pulled the lot of them (aged 10-40) into the middle of the sea, and 3 out of the 5 had to be rushed to the hospital.
Head of the rescue department noted that he received a distress call at about 9.01am, and a team of 6 (with their appropriate equipment) were quickly sent to the scene.
"When we got there, all victims were already rescued by members of the public, as well as tourism center authorities. 3 out of the 5 have been sent to the hospital for further treatments, whereas the remaining 2 are in stable condition", he said.
With monsoon season fast approaching, in Terengganu, respective authorities have cautioned against going to beaches for the time being, as predictions state waves rising up to 3.5 meters high, in the upcoming days.
"Due to that, members of the public have been warned against visiting beaches to take pictures or videos. Officers from the Civil Defense Forces will also be making their rounds, as well as monitoring hotspots", said head of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.
