Following the widely debated Oprah Winfrey interview, the Duchess of Sussex - Meghan Markle, who is married to Prince Harry of the Royal Family, seems to have no problem being in the spotlight. From her claiming that the Royal Family is racist, to saying that she was silenced, the headlines on her have been controversial to say the least.
Now, there are reports that she has plans to run for US president in the upcoming election! If President Joe Biden, who will be 82 by the next election, does not run for a second term, 39 year old Meghan Markle might just try to take his place. If successful, she will be the first female US president in history. So much for Royal Family rules.
Apparently, Meghan has always had political ambitions and she has been networking with senior politicians to build her case and campaign for the white house. However, many have strong opinions on her running, thinking that she does not have what it takes to be president, especially after she showcased her sensitivity to criticism in the Oprah interview.
One of those people is former president Donald Trump. When asked what he thought about Meghan Markle's plans, he commented, "I hope that happens. If that happened, I think I’d have an even stronger feeling toward running." Turns out, Trump is a huge fan of the Queen and not one of Meghan as he explicitly mentions in the interview, "the Queen is a tremendous person, and I am not a fan of Meghan".
You know who else are and aren't fans of Meghan and Prince Harry? Americans and Britains. Surveys show that after Oprah's interview, Prince Harry's ratings fell sharply in the UK for the first time, with 45% of positive ratings and 48% of negative ratings, especially among the higher age groups. In the US, however, Americans have a whopping 69% positive rating for Prince Harry and 67% for Meghan Markle.
Seeing how so many Malaysians were so emotionally invested in the last presidential election, I have no doubt that if the race between Donald Trump and Meghan Markle happened, it would be a sensation to watch!
