Malaysians, If Chicken Rice Happens To Be Your Favourite Meal, We've Got Bad News For You:
Even though we have been warned prior to the possibility of the
drastic increase in food prices in Malaysia, it still came as a shock when it was first announced that
roti canai would be among the early victims of the price hike. Next in line?
*deep breaths* Chicken rice.
The recent announcement by Malaysia's prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that Malaysia will temporarily halt the export of 3.6 million whole chickens following its shortage. Naturally, the chicken shortage eventually sparked higher demands which led to its price increase. Local food business owners and hawkers alike have already started to feel the heat, fearing that they might be forced to put a higher price on their menu.
Sin Chew Daily reported that local chicken rice stall operators are now contemplating increasing the price of their chicken rice, in order to still be gaining profit.
