A man has been arrested for uploading seditious content targeting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) on Facebook. The 43-year-old suspect was apprehended in Bera, Pahang today after uploading the content using the account under the name @SamBanjar from Perak.
The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, stated that the suspect uploaded provocative content aimed at causing defamation or inciting disloyalty towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"The suspect has been remanded for four days starting today under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The case is currently being investigated by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of Division D5, CID Bukit Aman, under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said in a statement.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) urges the public to be responsible and mindful of social media users.
Mohd Shuhaily also urged the public to refrain from making any statements that could jeopardize harmony and unity, especially those involving the 3Rs religion, race, and the royal institution.
