When a girl in secondary school pretended to be abducted because she missed her Agama class, she found herself in trouble.
Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda, the chief of police in Kota Kinabalu, stated that an inquiry by the police showed that the 13-year-old student from Kampung Tanjung Aru Baru had made up a narrative about being abducted in order to justify her refusal to attend Agama class on Thursday.
According to a statement from Kasim, "the girl eventually admitted to having fabricated the story (of being kidnapped) since she was afraid she would be scolded by her parents for skipping her Agama class. This was based on police investigation and question asked."
According to him, the girl was alone and strolling in a shopping centre when security guards noticed her. This was the result of a police inquiry.
Kasim cautioned the public and teenagers against inventing stories about crimes since it would incite fear in the neighbourhood.
According to Karim, making fake reports is also illegal.
"The police will also be impacted by this act since it will take time and effort to conduct an investigation," he stated.
The girl was brought back to her parents after the incident and given advice not to repeat the same behaviour.
Additionally, Kasim cautioned the public against posting unverified images or claims on social media because doing so could frighten others.
A child who was purportedly the victim of a kidnapping case went viral on Facebook on Thursday, along with her photo and statement.
According to the statement, the girl escaped from her abductors in Tanjung Aru, who were reportedly inside a white van.
