Today, the death toll of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Malaysia rises to 11. Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, confirmed yet another death in his Facebook post this morning.
"Unfortunately, to date, one (1) additional case of COVID-19 related deaths has been reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC). This latest report brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia to eleven (11) people so far," he wrote.
It is reported that the 11th death is a 70-year-old man who had passed away yesterday (22 March) at 9.05 pm.
"He started showing symptoms a week before being admitted to the UKM's Chancellor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital on 18 March 2020. He was positively diagnosed with COVID-19 the next day (19 March 2020) and was given respiratory care at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," Datuk Noor Hisham explained.
"His health deteriorated day by day and he was declared dead yesterday (22 March 2020) at 9.05 pm," he confirmed.
Besides having a history of chronic illness, this man also has a history of traveling to Indonesia in February 2020. The Ministry of Health was also informed that he is also the chairman of the local surau in his area.
Datuk Noor Hisham concluded his post by expressing the condolences of the Health Ministry to the family members of the patient.
"The Ministry of Health expresses our deepest condolences to the family members of the patient."
