The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has reportedly offered All England champion, Lee Zii Jia, a salary of RM1 Million a year in an effort to persuade him not to leave the association.
According to sources, the proposal was offered during a negotiation session between BAM and the 23-year-old badminton player after his resignation letter was finalized on January 11th, in order for him to partake in a professional badminton career.
It is understood that Zii Jia, who is also the world's No.7 badminton player, has recently received a lucrative offer from a sports equipment company in Taiwan which was alleged to be the main factor he wanted to leave BAM. Specifically, he was allegedly offered a payment of US $400,000 (RM1.674 million) a year with a 7-year contract, making its total value RM 11.718 million.
Last Friday, BAM decided not to register Zii Jia to participate in any international tournament for two years effective January 18th after his withdrawal from BAM. However, Lee Zii Jia's latest Instagram post reveals quite a happy ending. "I am happy that we are now resolving this issue with BAM after receiving Tan Sri's blessings to become a professional player. My past and future achievements will always be the product of Tan Sri Norza, BAM, and Malaysia," his caption reads.
This ultimatum seems to lean towards Lee Zii Jia, and we're excited and hopeful for his glistening career to reach another level of glory. Go, Lee Zii Jia!
