Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) are currently investigating the sudden death of a foreigner who was also in police custody at Hospital Kajang here today.
Director of JIPS Datuk Azri Ahmad, said that the man was a citizen of Myanmar and was sent to the hospital last Monday around 8:10am after informing the officials that he was feeling well and was held in police custody at the ward to receive proper treatment.
"Today the hospital inform us that the man in custody had passed away and the cause of death was still unknown," he said in a statement today.
Earlier, he said at around 5:30pm on the 30th of January, a local man handed over the foreigner to the police at the Kajang Police Station's One Stop Center in Selangor. The foreigner was accused of stealing a motorbike.
He said the suspect was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Azri said that an investigation was being held by the Criminal Investigation and Death in Detention Unit of his department.
