Death Case Represents Somebody's Loved One | Check Out COVID-19 Memorial Malaysia Website

24-Sep-2021
By Jada

COVID-19 is spreading across the world. A group of volunteers set up a Covid-19 Memorial Malaysia website, to remember and honour our beloved family and friends who lost their battles against COVID-19 in Malaysia. This website was established on 16th September 2021, as it is Malaysia Day which represents unity among Malaysians.

This webpage was promoted by Aidila Razak, a journalist from Malaysiakini. You can see her determination and effort in setting up the Covid-19 Memorial Malaysia website after she realised that the total number of deaths had increased by more than 5,000 in just a few weeks.

The colour scheme of this page is mainly black and gold, which matches the theme of "death". Black is the base colour of the entire webpage. You would see a golden "lung" pattern on the homepage of the website. This matches with the fact that the COVID-19 virus will destroy the lungs of the patients in just a few days, leading to hypoxia, organ failure, or even death.

This webpage is available in three languages, making it easy for people of different races to read. Besides, this webpage has a dyslexia-friendly design! The memorial is accompanied by a black and white photo of the deceased, name, date of death, place of death and a brief description of the deceased. You can share your eulogy to express your deep condolences to the deceased on the page.

There is a list of contributors (volunteers) as well as some frequently asked questions on the About Us page. Besides, you can seek assistance from those agencies that are available on the resource page.

if you wish to create a memorial of your deceased family members or friends who passed away due to COVID-19, you can provide information via the “Create a Memorial” button on the main page of the website. These memorial texts will always remain on the website unless you request to modify or delete them. If you want to delete the memorial text, you can send an email to [email protected].

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you can set the subject of the email to "I want to contribute". If you are interested in giving financial support, you can also inquire via email.

It is heartbreaking to see the increasing number of deaths due to COVID-19. Hope every Malaysian will do their part in their pandemic prevention.
