After a less than desirable opening for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, director David F. Sandberg said he's calling it quits on directing superhero genres in the future.
In a series of tweets posted by Sandberg, he expressed his shock over the reviews given by Rotten Tomatoes.
Although he's gained memorable experiences from directing both movies, Sandberg intends to revert to horror genre, as well as pursuing other non-superhero projects.
As Ive been saying for a while now Im very eager to go back to horror (as well as trying some new things). After six years of Shazam Im definitely done with superheroes for now.

Just to be clear, I dont regret even for a second making the Shazam movies. Ive learned so much and gotten to work with some truly amazing people. Will forever be grateful that I got to direct two of these! Theyve been very challenging but valuable experiences.

One thing Ive really been looking forward to is disconnecting from the superhero discourse online. A lot of that stresses me out so much and it will be nice not having to think about that anymore.

The sequel reportedly amassed only $65.5 million opening globally, which is significantly lower than the first one.
Even its leading star, Zachary Levi, had called out on the flop, citing marketing failure being one of the reasons.
