A heartwarming story of luck and generosity has emerged from China, where a shopkeeper named Zhu became the unlikely winner of a lottery jackpot worth RM 193,030.74 (300,000 yuan) after a customer rejected the ticket he had mistakenly printed.
Zhu, who had been selling lottery tickets to the same customer for 5-6 years, made an error while punching in the numbers for her latest purchase. Despite offering to reprint the ticket with the correct numbers, the customer declined and left the shop, leaving Zhu with a ticket that would have gone to waste.
Not wanting to let the ticket go to waste, Zhu decided to buy it himself. He thought nothing of it until the customer messaged him later that same night to inform him that the rejected ticket had actually won the jackpot. Zhu was initially too busy to check, but he asked a colleague to take a picture of the ticket at the terminal. To his shock, he saw that the ticket had indeed won the jackpot.
Zhu explained that he had tried to convince the customer to keep the ticket in case it turned out to be a winning one, but she had insisted on her chosen numbers. As luck would have it, the chance to win had fallen into Zhu's hands instead.
When asked about his plans for the money, Zhu said that he would like to use it to plan for his son's future wedding. He also admitted that this wasn't the first time he had made mistakes while punching in lottery tickets, which had resulted in him losing over RM 64.34 (100 yuan) per month.
This heartwarming story of a lucky win and a kind-hearted shopkeeper has captured the attention and admiration of many people, both in China and around the world. It is a reminder that sometimes, even a mistake can lead to an unexpected stroke of luck.
