An event manager from Kuching faced heartbreak as he fell prey to a deceitful part-time job scam, causing him to receive a mere RM20,000 commission out of the RM1.2 million he had invested.
The incident unfolded when the man, in his 30s, encountered a woman named "Emma" from Vietnam on the Tinder app, who lured him with a part-time job opportunity involving online buying and selling.
Assured of a 1.1 percent return on his investment and additional commissions for the items he sold on a designated website, the victim engaged in the part-time job as proposed.
Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, revealed that the victim communicated with the suspect through WhatsApp and Telegram, even conducting video calls to discuss the job in detail.
The suspect provided a link to clickmart.site and an ID for the application. Consequently, the victim made 27 payment transactions to seven different bank accounts between May 15 and July 13, leading to a staggering loss of RM1.2 million.
Regrettably, the victim's returns were limited to a paltry RM20,000, and his suspicion arose when the promised commissions ceased to arrive from the suspect.
