High-tech surveillance saved the day! A would-be thief's attempt to rob a café was foiled when the owner shouted at him through the CCTV, sending him fleeing.
According to reports, Bookmark Coffee, located in Cheras, recently fell victim to a break-in. The culprit was caught in the act on the café's CCTV, and the owner's timely intervention scared him off.
The café owner posted the CCTV footage of the incident on social media to raise awareness. The incident occurred at 5:30 AM when the thief boldly rummaged through the counter drawers in search of valuables. The owner was alerted by the sound of the alarm and immediately noticed the unauthorized presence in the establishment.
The thief had about five minutes to loot the café, making off with a mobile phone, laptop, and cash.
The owner, utilizing the remote capabilities of the CCTV, shouted at the thief, who hastily fled the scene with his ill-gotten gains. Remarkably, the café owner lives just three minutes away and rushed to the scene promptly.
Upon arrival, no signs of forced entry were detected on the café's main door, leading the owner to speculate that the thief might have used tools or acquired a key from the previous owner.
The café owner admitted that he didn't hold high hopes of recovering all the stolen items. His primary aim was to caution neighbouring businesses, preventing them from becoming the next target.
Later, he updated the comments section to inform followers that the phone had been found, speculating that the thief had ditched it due to its tracking feature.
