The Italian village of Fabbriche di Careggine that has been submerged under water for over 25 years could be about to re-emerge soon.
The 12-century village was flooded in 1946 to build a water reservoir and the artificial Lake Vagli after its residents were moved to a new lakeside town, Vagli di Sotto.
Though buried underwater most of the time, the town occasionally re-appear when the water reservoir was emptied for maintenance. According to local tourism officials, the ruined town had resurfaced in 1958, 1974, 1983 and was last seen in 1994 when the water was drained.

The ancient village’s structure — including stone houses, a bridge, a cemetery and the San Teodoro church — remain incredibly intact even though covered by 34 million cubic meters of water for so many years.
It has been reported that local politicians have been trying to empty the dam in order to have the abandoned village back in view. The mayor of the neighboring town has also asked local authorities to drain the dam to boost tourism in the area.
