Since the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro’s launched commercials were leaked just a few hours before the unveiling, people can’t hide their anticipation and excitement for its launch. Since the leak happened so close to the iPhone 13 launch, people can’t help but wonder which phone is the better one.
Well, to help you figure that out, here are some of the notable features of both phones:
+ Design & Display
While many argue that the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s design is quite similar to the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s, it actually has a refined design, with a bigger camera bump at the back and a smaller notch on the screen that is home to the front camera and the Face ID technology.
The smaller notch is kind of a big deal as it has been the same since the release of the iPhone X in 2017. It also gives you a bigger and wider display.
Compared to its previous models, the Google Pixel 6 Pro it no longer has the rear-mounted fingerprint reader, but it is rumoured that it will be an under-display fingerprint sensor, which is something the iPhone doesn’t have.
Besides that, the black rectangular bar that stretches horizontally across the back of phone is home to the cameras while the front camera is located in a centre cut-out instead of a notch.
Some similarities between the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the Google Pixel 6 Pro are that they both have the same display size, 6.71 inches and the Google Pixel 6 Pro is also rumoured to have facial recognition.
+ Cameras
The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a triple camera system with 12MP for the main camera, 12MP for the ultrawide camera and 12MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The front facing camera is also 12MP.
The iPhone also the ability to record in the ProRes format, up to 4K 30fps on the 256GB, 512GB and 1TB models — the 128GB variant is capped at 1080p 30 fps.
Besides that, with the new Cinematic Mode, can any other smartphone really beat the iPhone 13 Pro Max?
The new Google Pixel 6 Pro also has a triple camera system with 50MP for the main camera, 12MP for the ultrawide, and 48MP telephoto with 4x optical zoom and a 12MP front-facing camera.
According to Google, the main wide-angle sensor lets in 150% more light. They also mentioned that they are working with experts to improve colour accuracy especially when capturing images of people with colour.
Some of the other rumoured features are that the camera includes a magic eraser for removing people in the background, a face deblurring tool, manual white balance adjustment and the front camera is said to be able to capture 4k video.
+ Performance
As the iPhone 13 Pro Max came with the newly introduced A15 Bionic system-on-chip, the new Google Pixel 6 Pro will be coming with a newly introduced Tensor, designed in collaboration with Samsung.
While the Tensor processor will free up the CPU for other activities, potentially bolstering performance, and battery life. It will also provide a boost to the computational photography and there could be more voice-powered commands involving the new phones.
While the Tensor is an improvement, it definitely does not stand a chance against Apple’s A15 Bionic.
+ Battery
The Pixel 6 Pro is rumoured to have a 5,000-mAh battery which is the largest that Google has ever used. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s is only rumoured to be around 4352-mAh. However, since the Google Pixel 6 Pro is not out yet, we can’t really judge its battery life.
+ Software
The iOS 15 was introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and it certainly makes the phone smarter. It introduced features like sharing screen during Facetime, introduces Focus modes, and adds improvements and adjustments to many of the core system apps. You can read more about it here.
The Google Pixel 6 Pro on the other hand will showcase the full functions of the Android 12 which went through a huge redesign with its Material You design language which is a light theming system that adjusts system colours to your wallpaper, creating a variety of accents you can choose from.
While neither one of the operating systems are better than one another, they both have their strengths which are very different from each other.
+ Conclusion
While a full-on showdown between the two phones can’t really be done since the Google Pixel 6 Pro isn’t out yet and it wouldn’t be fair for it, we had to do a short comparison so that you know and understand the differences, the similarities and even the new features each phone has to offer.
At the end of it all, it depends on what you expect from your smartphone. What do you want tit to do for you? Do you want it to be your camera or your gaming platform or your work buddy? When you think of it in that angle, you can make a better and more informed decision.
Good luck and send our love to your wallet.
