No doubt, it was a pretty intense night during the World Cup Final between Argentina & France. Malaysians were on the edge of their seats rooting for their favourite countries to take home the winning trophy.
That said, Argentina won the finals and it was an absolute joy to watch the players celebrating with each other. Such team spirit, ey!
Messi stepped onto the stage to receive the trophy just prior to the trophy-lifting ceremony. The G.O.A.T. was then honoured by the King of Qatar with a black cloak known as a Bisht.
So what is this 'bisht' and why was he given to wear one?
For the unfamiliar, a bisht is a black cloak that is given to be worn as a symbol of respect and triumph. It is a customary attire of Qatar whereby the Arab warriors wore after victory, even the royal family was seen wearing it.
The King of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was also seen dressing Messi with the robe as an honour. In this case, the King of Qatar was also honouring Messi as the King of Football as he had won the World Cup for his country, Argentina.
Speaking of victory, did you know that this would be the second win for Argentina since the last World Cup in 1986?
It has been so long since their last victory plus it also may be Messi's last World Cup. He was also seen recreating Maradona's epic moment after their win! What a beautiful moment!
In an interview, the Argentinian said, "Theres a lot of years until the next one and I dont think I have it in me and finishing like this is best."
Lionel Scaloni, the manager of Argentina, has stated that Messi will always have rights to the team should he want to join in the 2026 World Cup. Messi will be 39 years old when the World Cup is held then and it will be hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Anyway congratulations to Messi and the Argentina team for winning the World Cup this year!
