A taxi driver was found dead, covered in blood, in his car near a health clinic in Kampung Seberang Takir last night.
The 51-year-old man was discovered in the back seat of the car with multiple neck injuries.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md. Din, stated that they received information about a suspicious taxi at the scene around 10:56 pm before a team of officers rushed to the location.
"Upon arriving at the scene, police found two men inside the rented car, with one motionless in the back seat, and another in the driver's seat," he said when interviewed here today.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was the taxi driver, who was also found with a knife confiscated from the driver's footwell," he added.
Both men are believed to have struggled before the severely injured taxi driver passed away. Reportedly, the suspect was driving the taxi against oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a Myvi.
In an attempt to escape from the scene after the collision, the suspect was pursued by a group of motorcyclists, who managed to intercept and halt him on the roadside.
Following the apprehension by the motorcyclists, the suspect ultimately admitted to the murder.
This confession then led to the grim revelation of the victim's lifeless body in the rear seat of the taxi, drenched in blood and bearing severe disfigurement, rendering it unrecognizable.
The authorities informed that the motive or cause of the incident is still under police investigation, and the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"The detained suspect will be brought to court this morning to apply for remand to assist in the investigation into this case," he added.
