In a dramatic turn of events on June 29, a man driving a 4-wheel drive (4WD) crashed into a police car on Jalan Sungai Tuang. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 pm when the police officer had stopped behind the 4WD.
According to a report by BERNAMA, the Alor Gajah police chief, Supt Ashari Abu Samah, explained that the incident began when two officers on patrol came across a Ford Ranger 4WD parked in a secluded and dark area. Suspecting suspicious activity, the officers stopped their patrol vehicle behind the 4WD and turned on the beacon lights.
The 44-year-old driver of the 4WD, fearing arrest for close proximity (khalwat) with his 25-year-old girlfriend, panicked upon seeing the police. In an attempt to escape, he reversed his vehicle, colliding with the police MPV.
"The polices presence had scared the driver, and he tried to flee by reversing his vehicle, which led to the collision. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident," stated Supt Ashari.
Despite the lack of injuries, the collision caused significant damage to the front door of the police MPV and shattered its window. The police promptly arrested the couple under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants from performing their duties.
