In a written parliament reply by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz in response to Bayan Baru member of Parliament (MP) Sim Tze Tzin, it has recently been revealed that the official vehicle for cabinet ministers has been changed from a Proton Perdana 2.4L to Toyota Vellfire 2.5L due to a cheaper lease since March 2020.
The government's decision to change its official car from a Proton Perdana 2.4 Premium to a Toyota Vellfire 2.5 is due to a cheaper monthly rental rate, said the Finance Ministry.

To be specific, the government spends RM5,759.35 for each Toyota Vellfire, distributed to all cabinet ministers, and up until September this year, the government had paid a total of RM1.42 million to the concession company.
Naturally, Malaysians were understandably upset at the numbers, as it could have been allocated towards greater causes— anything related to reliving the livelihood of the public after the devastating pandemic, for example.
Vietnam Prime Minister is paid RM3,500 per month.
Malaysians are paying the rental cost of a Vellfire to carry a Minister kesana kesini RM5,800 per month.
frustrating situation in our country. rakyat suffer, menteri duduk vellfire. https://t.co/oOr152oKua
* Be it Proton Perdana or Vellfire, what we see is the endless quest of our politicians for power, money and status.*< br>
*The rakyat have become so familiar with the corruption at high places that it no longer shocks us if the next official car is BMW 8 series.*
Each of our Menteri can buy own Vellfire without burdening the taxpayers and without hurting their pocket too, but of course no Menteri in Malaysia would have that level of conscience. https://t.co/rvm3W4IbdQ
Government of Malaysia, never fails to amuse. https: //t.co/04U7EQR44p
With suicide cases significantly rising following the hardship caused by the pandemic, the financial struggles, and the collective decline in mental health, the government could have done better.
Oh well.
