After Massive Downpour, Sabah Hit With Wave Of Flash Floods
With the heavy downfall of rain these last few weeks, it was only inevitable that mother nature would cause her wrath in some way or another, and unfortunately for some, it can be a devastating effect.
Two states in Sabah have recently succumbed to massive flooding today, after heavy rain tore through the states of Penampang & Sipitang this afternoon.
After rain started to pour at 12:40pm today, multiple villages were hit with drastic flooding as water levels began to rise, causing severe damage to several streets and houses within the area.
Throughout multiple social media outlets, netizens took to platforms to update the public on the situation as well as alerting others of upcoming floods within other areas such as Sugud, Kolopis, Kasigui, Siga Roundabout, Maang and Koimadang.
Nearly 100 vehicles were also damaged due to the floods, leaving them submerged within the muddy waters. Some of those affected were the residents of the Penampang apartment building, Vista Kiranau. Being unable to move their cars, residents were left shocked at just how badly the floods had been, with one resident stating that this is possibly the worst flooding the area has had thus far.
"The water level this time is quite deep and the flow is rapid, worse than in 1993 and 1999." said resident Liza Lazarus.
"Most of the cars were submerged as we could not move them to higher ground because the road was already blocked by other cars that were parked along the road."
Previously The Meteorological Department had issued a statement, warning the public of oncoming thuderstorms, heavy rain as well as strong winds to the interiors of Sabah, West Coast, Sandakan (Tongod and Beluran) and Kudat, and were expected to last until 7pm today.
