Burnout happens when you're constantly under unresolved stress. It's a state of physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. It drains your energy level and leaves you feeling lethargic and unable to focus.
These are some simple yet helpful tips on how to prevent burnout.
1. REACH OUT
As cliche as it may sound, it's OKAY to not be okay. Don't feel shy to ask for help when you need it. If you're feeling down or overwhelmed, you can always confide in your friends. By reaching out and telling your problems, it's not an act of cowardice but it means you're brave enough to face your problems instead of keeping them under covers (this is bad btw, no problems are solved by hiding them). Establish a support group to help each other out, remember you're not alone!
2. REVALUATE YOUR PRIORITIES
Sometimes what you value as priority might not be the case for you. You feel burnout when your life's amiss. You've to take a step back and figure what makes you happy and where your true passion really lies. If it's really something you're passionate about, you'll need to set up boundaries on developing it. Being passionate about something is GREAT but it must be done moderately. Give yourself time off, know that to fight the good fight, you need to have REST.
3. REFRAME THE WAY YOU VIEW WORK/TASKS/CHORES
Undeniably, work's important. However, you cannot let it define you. Set out a to-do-list daily and sort out your work pile. You don't have to finish all in a day. Your workplace isn't a living hell, take a break over a cuppa. Establish a good connection with your colleagues, they're your coping mechanisms at work.
4. HEALTHY DIET/LIFESTYLE
If you've been eating unhealthily, not having sufficient exercises, you'll often feel tired. One way to prevent burnout is to eat healthily and lead a healthy lifestyle. You can start with little steps such as cutting down on your sugar intake. Craving that bubble milk tea? Eat an apple instead. You could start with jogging during the weekends. With a healthy lifestyle, you'll discover that you feel more energise and ready to take on the challenges!
5. BE KIND TO YOURSELF
"Life is determined to introduce you to your true self. Be Kind." - Richelle E Goodrich.
You have to remember that you're only human and humans need to rest. Remember you've got one life, there's no rewind button. If you're not kind to yourself, who will?
Hope that these tips could offer a bit of help! Rejuvenate and press on!
