With the pandemic keeping gyms closed and keeping many of us at home, exercising becomes a problem. Add on the fact that we usually sit (more like slump) in the same chair the entire day, to get up and get moving is more important than ever.
Some people have found a fun solution to this through popular gaming console, Nintendo Switch and its Ring Fit device and games, but not everyone can afford to. Well, turns out there's a super budget friendly option that costs nothing and requires no tools but your smartphone!
Introducing Active Arcade! Developed by NEX Lab, it is a whole new way of imagining exercising at home. Through the use of augmented reality (AR) and not any expensive equipment or wearables, it gets you jumping, stretching, kicking, running through interactive games that you control with your body.
All you have to do is download the FREE app on your iPhone or iPad (Android version coming soon), make sure it has a working front camera, and start playing one of the 19 games currently available!
Each game lasts from 30 seconds to 1 minute and ranges from a little bit of math, to training your hand eye coordination, or be extremely physical. The app even gives you a rough estimate of how much calories have been burned based on your activity.
Think this is too easy? Turn up the difficulty level by adding in your own twist! Play the games while dribbling a basketball, or balancing on a balance board. Online multiplayer is currently in development but one of the games can be played with a friend or family beside you. You can even connect it to the big screen for extra fun!
As mentioned before, Active Arcade is currently only available on iOS devices. But, while we're waiting for the Android version, you can consider the Plaicise app on Google Play store which works on a similar concept.
So, stop giving your excuses and get your body moving right now! There has never been a better reason to play games than this!
