89.1% of the Malaysian adult population are now fully vaccinated as of today, 8th October 2021.
Government officials have also started teasing the public with the promise of interstate travel restrictions being lifted very soon, as soon as Malaysia reaches 90% of the vaccination rate among adults. That being said, here are some things you need to take note of, once the state borders are open:
• While the existing SOPs will still be in use, no roadblocks will be implemented at state borders
• No restrictions against anti-vaxxers to cross states, however, they will still be barred from dining-ins and other privileges stated here
• Booster dose would not affect the status of those who were currently categorized as fully vaccinated
• Booster dose is highly recommended six months after receiving the first dose for individuals aged 18 and above
• The public is encouraged to conduct personal COVID-19 tests before traveling and treat as it is now a personal responsibility
• Random checks by the authorities will remain to monitor anti-vaxxers and fines will be issued, consistent with Ops Patuh
• The price of the Covid-19 self-test kit will be reduced in due time

As emphasized by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, amidst the excitement, Malaysians should make it their utmost responsibility to stay safe and protect those around them by taking the COVID-19 vaccine as we simply cannot afford another outbreak.
May this endemic phase signal the end of our "new normal" as we know it.
