On this date, a significant amendment to the law will come into effect in Sarawak, allowing applications for the recognition of Bumiputera status. This move aims to address the many questions and confusions that have arisen in the past regarding Bumiputera's status in Sarawak.
In accordance with the provisions of the Interpretation (Amendment) Ordinance 2022, the eligibility criteria are straightforward.
Applications can be submitted at any district office in Sarawak with a fee of RM100 per application. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Malaysian citizen
- Native-born of Sarawak original indigenous people
- One of the parents is a native-born of Sarawak
Starting from November 1, 2023, individuals of mixed descent can own Bumiputera Land and receive recognition as Anak Negeri (Bumiputera/Pribumi) for admission to public universities or higher education institutions.
