A man with Down syndrome sustained burns on his front and back after his neighbour scalded him with hot water at Jalan Rajawali I-Park today. The 33-year-old victim is currently undergoing treatment at Penang Hospital (HPP) and is reported to be in stable condition. The incident, which occurred, was captured on a 20-second CCTV video recording and has since been circulating on social media.

Deputy Superintendent Jafri Md Zain, the Deputy Chief of the Southwest District Police, stated that the victim, who is unemployed and has Down syndrome, is capable of speaking well. According to a report lodged by the victim's sibling at the Bayan Lepas Police Station, the victim was purportedly splashed with a liquid suspected to be acid by a woman shortly after boarding the elevator.

Jafri clarified that the burns suffered by the man were determined to be caused by hot water, not acid, based on the treatment received at HPP. The victim continues to receive medical care at the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The incident took place in the elevator as the victim was returning home on the 16th floor. CCTV footage revealed that only the victim and the suspected woman were present during the incident. Although the police have identified the female suspect, who is believed to reside in the victim's neighbourhood, no arrests have been made thus far.

Jafri mentioned that the motive behind the incident remains unclear as there was no prior interaction or dispute between the victim and the suspect. The case is currently under investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The viral video recording showed a woman, wearing a white shirt and black pants with glasses, inside the elevator. The victim was seen entering the elevator before the woman took out a bottle and splashed the liquid on him.
