In a shocking road rage incident earlier today, police arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly assaulted two individuals using a steering lock. Acting district police chief Superintendent Shan Gopal Krishnan confirmed that the arrest followed a report lodged by one of the victims at 12.17 pm.
According to the police report, the incident occurred around 11.50 am on a road in Dengkil. The victim stated that he and a friend were attacked by a man wielding a steering lock. A bystander recorded the assault, and the video quickly went viral on social media, drawing public attention to the violent altercation.
According to NST, Superintendent Shan Gopal revealed that the victims sustained injuries to their heads and hands as a result of the attack. "The incident was recorded by a member of the public and had gone viral on social media," he said in a statement.
Following the report, police swiftly detained a student from a private institution of higher learning, believed to be the assailant, and confiscated the steering lock allegedly used in the attack. "The motive was dissatisfaction over something that occurred while both parties were driving in the Air Itam area heading towards Dengkil," Superintendent Shan Gopal explained.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. If found guilty, the accused could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, or whipping, or a combination of the punishments.
Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with further information about the incident to come forward.
