It‘s been over a year since we’ve accustomed ourselves to live with this pandemic. In that period of time, governments worldwide have all put their best foots forward, in attempting to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In Malaysia, those attempts comprised of MCO's, CMCO's and RMCO's. Coupled with it, were basic standard operation procedures like social distancing measures, sanitizing, the usage of facemasks, and to scan the MySejahtera app, as means for contact-tracing.
However, as numbers begin to rise, and many were 'claimed' to have overlooked the rules, fines begun to be imposed. What started off at RM1,000 for anyone who didn't comply with the SOPs, recently became RM10,000.
Based on the March 2nd announcement by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri, no one would technically get fined 10k, so long as offences were serious and consequential. However, it would appear that since then, many have indeed, been fined a 10k for offences which do not quite equate the amount. On top of that, is an apparent biasness to common folk, and not higher ups.
Taking to Twitter, netizens have been far from happy.
RM10,000 for serious offences could be considered, seeing the fact that Covid-19 is certainly a matter of life and death.
However, a 10k fine for not wearing facemasks while having a meal, one for not scanning the MySejahtera app, and one which un-shockingly does not apply to ministers?
Sounds like daylight robbery to us.
