Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Saadon Moktar said they received an emergency call about the ship's fire at 4:02 PM.  The initial investigation suggests that the fire is believed to have started at the pump used to channel oil to other vessels.

"The quick action of the fire brigade managed to control the fire and we are conducting monitoring to ensure the safety of the ship," according to the director.

The injured crews are currently receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital (HPP).
