Several gorillas in the Atlanta Zoo have been presumptively tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, after displaying the common symptoms of the virus, the zoo announces on its website.
The infected apes displayed symptoms of coughing, nasal discharge, and minor changes in appetite, and were believed to have been affected by fully vaccinated zookeepers. It's worth noting that the zookeepers were wearing full PPE and asymptomatic.
These infected animals will be receiving Zoetis coronavirus vaccine, specifically developed for veterinary use. Since Gorillas operate in large groups, it'd be impossible to isolate them individually.
This, along with other isolated incidents in which zoo animals have previously contracted Covid-19 debunked the fact that animals cannot be infected by the coronavirus carried by humans, although we don't currently have substantial researches yet.
It's best not to panic, as long as your pets get their necessary vaccines.
