In a shocking announcement, local mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Yodoo has announce that their brand will discontinue their services effective 29th August 2024.
Following the merger of telcos Celcom & Digi 18 months ago, Yoodo, which was started by Celcom, was required by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to divest its interest in the brand and find a new independent following the completion of the merger. As the deal was was completed in November 2022, this meant that the time was up for the beloved service and after failing to find a new buyer, this unfortunately signaled the end for the operator.
While Yodoo still remains one of the most popular telcos for its customisable plans and affordability, the effective closure surely came as a shock to the public as they had hoped that there would be a long life ahead of the telco, especially after CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawaw revealed last August, that there was a vast interest from both local and international companies to acquire Yodoo.
Despite the immanent demise, Yodoo has assured their customers that they will not face any interruptions to their services (Data, Voice and SMS) as well as providing them an option to port out to any operator of their choice out ahead of the closure. They also announced that further details will be shared on the 17th of June and any FAQ can be found at their website here.
